Social Southwest Florida: August Edition
August is here and with it begins the transition out of Summer and into Fall, and for rush hour commuters, school will be back in session. Hi it’s Marcus Larrea with Palm Paradise Real Estate, and I'm excited to share with you our top Southwest Florida events that will be happening over this next month!
August is always a transitional period as our focus shifts away from summer plans and travels, to heading back to school, getting back to work and enjoying local events on the weekends. Public schools resume classes in Lee and Collier County on Tuesday August 10th, so don’t forget to plan your rush hour commute accordingly.
One recurring event we are pleased to welcome back is the Farmer’s Market at Koreshan State Park every Sunday from 8am until 1pm. Take a stroll through Koreshan State park in Estero and shop amongst a wide variety of local vendors ranging from fresh produce, to local art, unique gifts and more!
Looking for a fun day on the water with you four legged friends? We’re PAWsitive you’ll love Pure Florida’s “Bark on the Ark” cruises on Saturday August 14th. Pure Florida’s dog-friendly cruise is back this month, as it takes guests and their pups aboard the MV Edison Explorer for a sight-seeing, eco-friendly cruise along Naples Bay to Keewaydin Island. Cruises depart at 8am from Tin City and allow passengers time to play with their happy hounds in an excursion that allows pet parents and their dogs to run, swim and play in the sunshine, water and sand. Although dogs must be kept on a leash on Keewaydin Island, drinking water, tennis balls, bags and healthy dog treats are included.
Get ready to celebrate Bacon Fest on Saturday August 14th from 7pm until 11pm. Located throughout Cape Coral’s entertainment district, the 7th Annual South Cape Bacon Fest allows guests to hop on the trolley and enjoy a bacon-themed pub crawl to enjoy drink and food samples at some of Cape Coral’s hotspots. This is a voting event, as locations will be competing for best drink and best appetizer, so expect some unique and savory options.
If you’re into “Self-Care Sunday” join Lucky Cat Yoga on Sunday August 15th from 9am until 10am at the Dali Museum in Saint Petersburg, FL. The Lucky Cats teach an all-levels approach vinyasa yoga in a remarkable environment where Dali’s energy infuses the physical, mental and spiritual inspiration in yoga. Each student is encouraged to sustain their practice at their own pace.
If you’re more into watching movement happen upon a stage, rather than being a part of it yourself, make sure to check out the Marco Island Player’s production of “Love and Fireworks” at 7pm on Sunday August 15th. The Marco Island Players will perform a theatrical production consisting of three separate stage readings, revolving around the ups and downs of love and friendship. Tickets aren’t needed thanks to a grant from The Community Foundation of Collier County, but donations are appreciated beforehand or at the show.
Rounding up the month of August, celebrate National Honeybee Day at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates on August 21st from 9am until 2pm. Guests can experience lectures, demonstrations and presentations revolving around the honeybee, as well as learn more about Florida’s native wildflowers and how they attract a variety of bees and other pollinators to your garden. Enjoy this fun and educational experience with the whole family, as well as browsing through a variety of local plants that will be for sale as well.
